MILD stands for Mnemonic Induced lucid dreaming. It helps with your memory, you should have great memorizing skills for this technique to work.

It doesn't matter if you are a novice lucid dreamer or advanced lucid dreamer. MILD doesn't only help you with dreaming but also with your memory.

Many people rely on external reminders, including us. Mnemonic means Memory, when you give your brain command to remind you of a certain thing.

This technique has very high chances in the world of lucid dreaming.

So, how it works?

Here are the steps to use MILD.

1. Memory training

How can you remind yourself in a dream that you are dreaming, if you don't do it in waking life?

Before using MILD, make your memory sharp. Minimize using external reminders like memos, alarm clock or to-do list, etc.

You will be alarmed to know how much your brain is capable of remembering and reminding things.

One of the most efficient ways to improve memory is reading. There are still lots of ways and techniques you can apply.

2. Dream Recall

Do you write dreams down?

Maintaining a dream journal is critical for lucid dreaming. It helps you to differentiate dreams from reality.

There are very high chances that you will forget 90% of your dreams if you don't have good memory or interest in lucid dreaming.

Keep a dream journal, wake up after 6 hours of sleep and write down every possible detail you remember.

You can also draw your dream in a blank page notebook if you want.

3. Find Dreamsigns

Have you found something unusual in the dream, when you woke up?

Dreamsigns are the key elements to recognize a dream. They are unusual or meaningless things of dreams.

People start flying, animals start talking or you did something impossible are some examples.

It becomes very easy to recognize them if you are writing down your dreams daily.

After you wake up and write down your dream, find at least one dreamsign and realize that you are dreaming.

4. Wake / Sleep

After you said to yourself that you are dreaming, go to sleep.

It's even better if you remain awake for at least 2 hours.
The longer you are awake, the better the chances of getting lucid.

Exercise for 10 minutes, read books for mental and physical effort. You can also listen to binaural beats using headphones.

REM period is longer in later morning hours.

5. Intention

You should have a clear and concise intention of what you are going to do in a lucid dream.

Script your intention like you are writing a story. Include your feelings while scripting because what you feel is what you get.

Remind yourself that you will recognize your dream. Don't go to sleep without the proper intention.

Repeat your intention like affirmations and visualize it clearly before sleep.
